It is the desire of Harvest International Missions to extend the spreading of the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world by assisting God called, Spirit-filled missionaries to share the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, both at home and abroad.
Harvest International Missions was born from a heartfelt burden and the vision of Dr. Joe Arthur and Harvest Baptist Tabernacle, to reach the world with the Gospel. It is not only his burden, but it is a mandate given to us by the Lord Jesus Christ Himself; therefore, it is the purpose of Harvest International Missions to reach the world with the greatest news man has ever heard – the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
It is the desire of everyone at Harvest International Missions toextend missions throughout the world by assisting God called,Spirit-filled missionaries to share the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, both at home and abroad. This is accomplished by assisting missionaries sent from Harvest Baptist Tabernacle as well as separated, soul-winning missionaries from other local independent Baptist churches to spread the Gospel and to fulfill the call of God in their lives in the field where God has placed them.
Therefore, Harvest International Missions exists in order to help the local church in this endeavor known as “The Great Commission.”
Our guide in completing this mission is the Bible. Acts chapter thirteen directs that only the local church is authorized to send forth missionaries, and the application of this directive is recorded in the missionary journeys of Paul the Apostle. This is our model and guide as we reach out to a world that needs to know the Saviour.
It is our desire that the sun will never set on the preaching of the Gospel from Harvest Baptist Tabernacle and Harvest International Missions.
The times in which we live seem to dictate a departure from fundamental doctrines; therefore, we insist that all board members, missionaries or any other worker employed by or associated with Harvest International Missions (herein called HIM), agree to and follow these fundamental doctrinal truths.
I. The Godhead
WE BELIEVE that there is only one true God, eternally existing in Three Persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Deut. 6:4; Matt. 28:19; II Cor. 13:14)
II. Jesus Christ
WE BELIEVE that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, is true God and true man (Jn. 1:2,14; Lk. 1:35). Jesus died on Calvary as a vicarious substitute, He was buried, rose again bodily, and ascended to the Father according to the Scriptures (I Cor. 15:3,4; Acts 1:9-11).
III. Holy Spirit
WE BELIEVE that the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity, coexistent with the Father and the Son. He is the chief agent in the conviction of sin, in regeneration, and the comfort of the believer. The Holy Spirit baptizes the believer into the Body of Christ, permanently indwells in him, and seals him in salvation for all eternity (Jn. 16:7-11; Titus 3:5; Rom. 8:1-14).
IV. The Scriptures
WE BELIEVE in the verbal, plenary complete inspiration of the Old and New Testaments, and that God’s word is true without any mixture of error. We believe the Bible to be the true center of Christian unity, and the final authority in faith and life. (II Tim. 3:16,17; Psa. 12:5,7; Prov. 30:5,6).
V. Man
WE BELIEVE that man is the direct creation of God, and created in His image with a body, soul and spirit. Adam, the first man, sinned by disobedience. This act resulted in the fall of mankindand incurred both physical and spiritual death for all. We believe that all men have sinned, and are therefore guilty before God, and under His righteous condemnation (Rom. 3:23; 5:12; Eph. 2:1-3).
VI. Salvation
WE BELIEVE that all who, in faith, repent of sin and receive the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour are born again by the Holy Spirit and thus become the children of God. Salvation is a gift of God, apart from works, and based solely upon the finished work of Jesus Christ (Eph. 2:8,9; Jn. 1:12).
VII. Eternal Security
WE BELIEVE that salvation is not only a gift of God, but that it is also sustained by the power of His Spirit in the believer. Therefore, since salvation is wholly of the Lord, we hold that the believer shall be kept by the power of God through faith into salvation (Jn. 3:16; 10:28,29).
VIII. Second Coming & Future Events
WE BELIEVE in the literal, personal, pre-millennial, pre-tribulation return of Jesus Christ for His Church. At this event the dead in Christ and living believers will be translated to meet Him in the air. At the end of the seven–year tribulation, Christ will visibly descend with the saints to establish His earthly millennial kingdom. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved in Glory, and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost in hell (Rev. 1:7; I Thess. 4:15-17; Rev. 21:8).
IX. The Church
WE BELIEVE in the one true church, the Body and bride of the Lord Jesus Christ, made up of believers indwelt by the Holy Spirit. The New Testament local church is a body of baptized believers with Christ as its head, organized for worship, fellowship, and Christian service. The local church is self-governing (autonomous), and is not subject to denominations, fellowships, or creeds (Acts 2:41-47; I Cor. 11:2; 12:11,12; Eph. 1:22,23; 4:11-16).
WE BELIEVE that the two church ordinances are:
1. Baptism for believers only, by immersion, in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost (Matt. 28:19,20; Acts 1:5; 2:41).
2. The Lord’s Supper, commemorating our Lord’s death on the Cross. The elements of bread and fruit of the vine are symbolic of his broken Body and shed Blood but contain no saving or redemptive merit (Matt. 26:21-30; I Cor. 11:17,34).
X. Biblical Separation
WE BELIEVE all the saved are called into a life of separation from all worldly and sinful practices and alliances. This would include personal, marital, and ecclesiastical separation, and entanglement with moral or doctrinal impurity (II Cor. 6:14-18; 7:1; II Tim. 3:1-5). We are non-charismatic in belief and practice (I Tim. 4:1,2; I Cor. 12:28,31; 13:8-10).
XI. World Missions
WE BELIEVE the local church has been commanded, “Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.” Through our missions program, we purpose to pray for, send, and financially support missionaries of like faith in every continent and country in the world (Matt. 28:19,20; Mark 16:18; Acts 1:8; II Cor. 8:9).
